Resolution 4-03A of the 2019 LCMS convention reaffirmed the seven mission priorities of the LCMS, stating that "our commitment as LCMS congregations and workers is to walk together with the Word of God as our only guide for doctrine and practice."
Under the Synod’s adopted mission and ministry emphasis, Making Disciples for Life, these mission priorities will guide the work of the Synod in the coming 2019–2023 triennium (which was extended one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Below, explore these seven priorities, read stories about how the LCMS is working to carry out its mission, and find a Bible study in the "Ideas and Guidance" document on how these priorities connect to the Great Commission.
1. Plant, sustain, and revitalize Lutheran churches 2. Support and expand theological education 3. Perform human care in close proximity to Word and Sacrament ministries 4. Collaborate with the Synod's members and partners to enhance mission effectiveness 5. Promote and nurture the spiritual, emotional, financial, and physical well-being of pastors and professional church workers 6. Enhance early childhood education, elementary and secondary education, and youth ministry 7. Strengthen and support the Lutheran family in living out God's design
Making Disciples for Life is the triennial emphasis of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and is a partnership between individuals, congregations, districts, and the Synod to evangelize the lost, retain the faithful, strengthen congregations, and plant churches and schools.
