Visual Arts

God is the Master Artist!
After creating the universe, He looked at it and declared it good. Everywhere we look God communicates to us through His creation showing us his majesty, creativity, and sense of beauty. Art deepens our awareness and appreciation of His creation. We were blessed with vision and intelligence to sharpen our skills of observation, problem-solving and imaginative thinking. He gave us the ability to communicate our own thoughts and feelings visually moving ourselves and others to worship Him.
Students will be encouraged to look at the world around them creatively, with sensitivity to colors, line, shape, space and balance.

Students will:

Grow in awareness and appreciation of the beauty of God’s world. Art is all around us everyday!
Have the opportunity to develop independent thinking and self-motivation.
Develop personal artistic ability.
Have an outlet for creative expression.
Recognize and use art as a means of communication.
Gain skill in imaginative and complex forms of problem solving.

Visual Art goals will be achieved through:

The observation of the natural beauty of our surroundings.
Self-critiques of their art. Students will incorporate new vocabulary while learning how to understand and evaluate art.
Projects that use a variety of media to develop and advance a student's skill level. In turn this promotes greater confidence enabling self-expression.
A basic knowledge in various arts media including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
Studying other artists both contemporary and historically. Understanding better an artist's environment, their drive, and the methods they used to convey their message help students recognize and use art as a means of communication with the world around them.
Students receiving basic instructions and methods for a project. They will then be encouraged to individualize their project promoting creative thinking which develops problem solving skills.
