LCMS Stand With Your Community Outreach Grant = $25,000 to Share Jesus' Love

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in partnership with Lutheran Church Extension Fund and Thrivent Financial offered a special grant opportunity.
The Stand With Your Community Grant Program, in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation made $1 million available.
A primary focus of the projects funded by these grants is to inspire and empower laity to actively engage in local witness and mercy outreach events and opportunities as a reflection of Martin Luther’s unrelenting passion for all to know the true Gospel.
Out of over 500 applicants, MLHS was awarded $25,000 to carry-out the "Wrapped in Jesus' Love" project.
Beginning in March 2016, MLHS students, staff, family and friends will make fleece blankets that will be the packaging around kits containing "Prayer" Pillow Pets, Christian books, devotionals, Bibles, Christian lullaby CDs, and/or a Christian DVD. These "Wrapped in Jesus' Love" kits will be given out to people who come to the Options Pregnancy Center, Heaven's Table Food Shelf, or Lakeview Funeral Home.
The "Wrapped in Jesus' Love" project gives us the opportunity to reach out to those who are struggling with life issues.
The needs addressed are: 1. The need for physical comfort, 2. The need for spiritual guidance, 3. The need for emotional healing, and 4. The need for ongoing spiritual and emotional support.
The 2015-2016 School Year Theme for MLHS is "We Believe, therefore, We Do." based on 2 Corinthians 4:13-15 and 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. The Stand With Your Community Grant gives MLHS teenagers the opportunity to live out their faith by doing.
In planning this grant project, MLHS students have already become aware of tangible needs in the community and found ways they can reach out in Christian love to real people. After discovering that some agencies would not allow Christian materials to be included in the kits, the students bypassed these roadblocks by finding agencies that welcomed the opportunity to give out Christian materials. Students are partnering with three agencies that are just as excited as they are about the opportunties this project offers.
The grant funds allow MLHS students and the partnering agencies to actively engage in a mission of mercy outreach to three different demographics by introducing people to God's Word, comfort and love. The Christian materials provided will manifest the words of Psalm 78:1-4, "Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done."
