Tom Traetow
Tom Traetow graduated from Martin Luther in 2000 with a class of 14 students. As a teen, Tom sometimes liked to "push the envelope" and would be the first to tell you that attending high school wasn't his favorite thing to do. He played baseball and sang a solo for Pop's Concert. But his time at MLHS evidently prepared him for a life-time of service.
After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a 22 month deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2007 and also served in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010-2011. Both Deployments were as combat arms. Infantry for Iraq and a Cav Scout for Afghanistan
Tom was a Bronze Star Medal Recipient. The Bronze Star Medal (BSM) is a United States Armed Forces decoration awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.
Staff Sargent Traetow is also Master Spur Holder. The Order of the Spur is a Cavalry tradition within the United States Army. Soldiers serving with Cavalry units (referred to as "Troopers") are inducted into the Order of the Spur after successfully completing a "Spur Ride" or for having served during combat as a member of or with a Cavalry unit. A trooper who has earned both Silver and Gold spurs is known as a "Master Spur Holder."
In partnership with his mother, Debra Scruggs, Tom is co-owner of Minnesota River Valley Title & Abstracting Co. in Mankato. He is a member of Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business. The company was the 8th highest producer as an agent for First American in MN, SD, and ND. First American Title Insurance Company is the nation leader in title insurance for volume.
Now Tom lives in Good Thunder with his wife Bethany. They have sons Grant and Brock and daughters Hope and Joy.
Tom teaches confirmation at Highland Chapel. Highland Chapel Campus Church - Mankato, MN - Highland Chapel - A New Community of Faith. He enjoys golfing is has been a corporate sponsor of the "Play It Again" Golf Benefit for several years.

jonny diaz
Jonny Diaz’s album Sweetness And Sorrow almost never happened. For that matter, any new music from Diaz almost never happened.
A few years ago, Diaz wrote an album called Everything Is Changing because everything was, well, changing. It’s not something he’s said to many people before, but at the time Diaz thought it would be his last album.
He was touring around 100 days a year, starting a business with his wife, had just become a father…And beyond the busy schedule, the music industry had become more draining of life than giving. The focus was on making a product to sell, rather than to fulfill a passion. Songwriting sessions were formulaic instead of inspiration-led. Diaz was feeling the industry more than the music.
Then something happened that changed everything all over again: Jonny’s song “Breathe”– a last-minute toss as a radio single– resonated quickly with listeners and became a hit. Suddenly it was time to reevaluate his music career all over again.
“Of course God had to use a song about finding peace to humble me to actually do so,” Diaz laughs. “I was burned out, exhausted, but with “Breathe” He showed me ‘You can do this and stay grounded in the other important parts of your life. You have a calling to do this, and there is a way you can use this gift and live that out, while maintaining peace.’”
Diaz charted a new path going forward. He became more intentional with his performances and with the music-making process itself. The result was a brand new album he could truly, pardon the pun, breathe into.
“Making this project was relaxed and fun. And in having fun, it resulted in some of the most creative work. None of those songwriting pressures– Will it be a hit radio song? Does it have mass appeal?– were even asked. We just focused on the question of What’s God stirring in our hearts and how can we explore that truth and have fun with it?”
