MLHS Business students have joined the Minnesota Timberwolves Business Club. Business students from Minnesota high schools attended a seminar at the Target Center sponsored by The Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves/Lynx Business Club program purpose is to cultivate future business leaders. Students participated in an interactive seminar with the Timberwolves and Lynx senior management team to learn about career paths including Ticket Sales, Corporate Sponsorships, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Relations, Target Center Operations, Basketball Operations and Fan Relations.
The Timberwolves provided teachers with an Instructor’s Kit and students with game tickets and membership cards. In the following weeks, students will apply what they learned at the seminar into a project that plans a Timberwolves theme night. All projects will be turned in to the Timberwolves for critique. The best project will be used as the theme for a future Timberwolves game and the winning school will receive in-game recognition and prizes.

ACT Scores Show MLHS Consistently Provides Exemplary Education

Martin Luther High School students’ successes in the classroom are evident through scores on the ACT assessment test. The ACT is a national college admission exam that tests students in English, mathematics, reading and science. Keeping with tradition, MLHS seniors who took the ACT last school year scored higher than the state and national averages in composite scores.

MLHS students have consistently scored above the state and national levels for the last five years.

Students at MLHS have averaged at least a 23.2 on the assessment test in four of the last five years. The students also scored above the state and national averages in each subcategory as well.

2003-2004 Stats: The recent release of the ACT scores shows that Martin Luther High School is succeeding in providing not only an education that is Christ-centered, but an education that excels. The ACT focuses on students who complete four years of English & three years or more each of math, social studies & science.

The ACT is a well-matched test for Martin Luther students because the school requires the same number of years, or more, in each of these academic areas with an addition of a fourth year of social studies.

MLHS has added Advanced Biology to the curriculum & also requires all students to take two years of a foreign language. This well-grounded, basic academic program has proven beneficial for the college bound student. ACT scores showed that those students completing this level of coursework scored five points above the national & four points above the state average in reading. In the areas of English, math & science reasoning, MLHS students scored three points above the national & two points above the state average.

2002-2003 Stats: Overall, 14 of the 17 students in the junior class took the ACT during the 2002-03 school year at Martin Luther High School. They had a composite score of 23.2, compared with the state average of 22.8 and the national average of 21.8.

The scores are as follows:

Mathematics: MLHS – 23.3, state – 22.7, national – 21.6

English: MLHS – 23.3, state – 22.0, national – 21.4

Science: MLHS – 23.5, state – 22.9, national – 21.7

ACT tests are taken during a student’s junior year and can be taken more than once. The students desire to do well on this test due to the scholarships and colleges’ acceptance tied to the test. The ACT is also important to MLHS because it is often the last standardized test taken in high school. Martin Luther High School also offers the PLAN and PSAT tests.
